’96 / 5/2 News Release Announcement
Standard price: 19,800 yen
Seiwa Systems Co., Ltd. has translated the Windows version (for DOS / V machines) of the low-priced desktop digital video camera QCAM into Japanese and released it as “QCAM for Windows” from May 2. The Macintosh version has already been released and will follow suit.
QCAM is a peripheral device that converts images captured by CCD into digital data and sends them to a personal computer. Since data is taken from the parallel port (serial port * for Macintosh version), there is no need for a video capture board, and power is also supplied from the keyboard connector, making setting easy.
The maximum image that can be captured is 320 x 240 dots, and is monochrome with 16 or 64 gradations. The Macintosh version can capture audio by itself, but the Windows version requires a separate Sound Blaster compatible sound source board.
QCAM is also compatible with electronic conferencing systems such as the company’s “Video Phone” (12,800 yen) and Cornell University’s “CU-SeeMe”. Attached software
- Quick Movie video capture (AVI format)
- Quick Picture Still image capture (BMP, TIF format)
- Microsoft Video for Windows runtime version (AVI playback for Windows 3.1)
- Video Works 1.5 Japanese version (initially limited to 5,000, video editing)
As for the Macintosh version, the release of the color version QCAM has already been announced. (Addition: Macintosh version has been released, Windows version has also been shipped in the United States)
